Welcome to the online home of Rotherham Music. Although much of our work is done with young people through schools, our service is dedicated to promoting and helping people of all ages in Rotherham to engage in musical activity.
Music opens up new doors
for young people, and is proven to have huge benefits to their academic learning. For those of an older age, music is a fantastic way to expand your horizons, creating artistic opportunities as well as develop new social circles.
At Rotherham Music we are passionate about offering people of any age or ability the opportunity to engage in musical activity.

Day 2 at Rotherham Show was absolutely incredible! We were again blown away by the talent in Rotherham, and were so happy to see many bands and artists we’ve been working with progressing so much.
Not only that but our Drum n Brass project delivered its second brand new piece commissioned by us for Signals festival, composed by @mattrobertstpt for Maltby Miners Welfare Band. What a joy!❤️❤️❤️

Wall to wall talent all day long across our Signals Stage and Pop Up and Play Stations and in our tent where we got to speak to so many of you about the work we do here in Rotherham teaching music in schools, developing talent and reaching out into our communities to spread the joy of music with everyone!

Children’s Capital of Culture is recruiting a new group of trainees who will work on planning and delivering innovative creative events and projects that will take place right here in Rotherham.
These projects will take place between August 2025 and the end of March 2026.
All the traineeships involve working on creative projects for people across Rotherham and beyond to enjoy. Each traineeship is for between 6-to-8 months, and the different traineeships have different working patterns, roles and responsibilities.

We began July with Big Blast, bringing together children from schools across the borough to play and experience the joy of music.
We began this years two-day Big Blast at Winterhill School, with drums, violins, ukuleles, guitars, brass and recorders. And continued the next day with a show in front of parents at Oakwood High School featuring ukuleles, recorders and glockenspiel.
We owe a huge thank you to the children, their teachers and our own music teachers for continuing to spread the joy of music and community throughout the borough. We must also thank the parents for encouraging and allowing your children to take part in these events, showing them the true value of performing together.
Music is more important to a well rounded education than it seems, we are privileged to provide a service that can help grow confidence, skills and teamwork. We hope to continue to spread the joy and value of music for a long time, and we are so grateful that you choose to go on this journey with us.

Also this year, we have arts award accreditation available for any students of our summer school. Each day you can devote yourself to up to 2 musical disciplines from these categories and end the camp with an Arts Award
*Discover Level if you do 1 day, and 'Explore' level qualification if you do both.
*Note: Discover is not a regulated award but Explore is.
Come and explore your creativity and meet other young creatives guided by our teachers and experts and get yourself a qualification while you have fun doing it!

What an incredible 2 days we had back in June when we had our yearly One Voice event at Magna. Hearing 1500 young voices performing over 2 days is such a magical experience, one we all look forward to each year.
Thank you to all of the children, our teachers, and all the teachers in schools across the borough who take part in this yearly celebration of the human voice, and as we see it, the central importance of performing TOGETHER. For our children and young people this can be transformative. It is a unique moment where we can come together in a very large event to experience the joy and power of music.
Music is so important to the development of children and young people. We are privileged to provide a service where we get to see people grow in confidence and ability over time. The connection to well being and cognitive development compliment a rounded education.

It was really informative and a brilliant start to our new weekly Breaking Through sessions at Rock Out Music Provision where we want to connect and empower you all to develop your creativity and explore music in new and interesting ways, all connected to the idea of music being a real career option as well as something that's a wonderful thing to do with your life for fun and friendships
.Anyone who didn't make it, fear not, we are welcoming you all to our weekly sessions beginning THIS FRIDAY, 4-6pm, at Rock Out Music Provision on High Street. Please come along with an instrument, or if you don't have one and just want to meet other creatives and musicians just bring yourself and an open mind:) You can use any of the instruments already provided by Rock Out so its really a great way to experiment and enjoy being creative in a group setting where you can explore the processes of making music, being in a band, releasing music, recording music and performing on stage, FREE!

We launch our new weekly creative social at Rock Out Music provision with an special music business Q&A to help young musicians and bands from our region make their way from DIY to the big stage!
Rock Out Music Provision will be hosting us for this musical social event, featuring a Q&A from industry professional John Hart.
John is the Course Leader for Music Business at BIMM Music Institute Birmingham, and toured the world with Edward II, who signed deals with Cooking Vinyl, Zomba Records, The Big Chill and BMG Publishing, before self-managing their own label and publishing. John now acts as a manager for four artists as well as his work as a teacher at BIMM.
His knowledge will be an invaluable resource for anyone trying to work out their next steps in the music industry, whatever stage you're at, John will have insights and experience you will benefit from hearing.

We had such fun yesterday delivering a composition workshop for the new Rotherham Opera at @wickersleyssc ! This was the final composition session working with @royalballetandopera which was a brilliant experience for us, the students and teachers.
Kathryn & Liam from Rotherham Music led on this session which was to create a special musical moment for one of the stories. This will be woven into the Opera composition by @lucymulgan for @royalballetandopera

What a night! We saw so much talent from our performers, and each of them received an outpouring of support from their audience and each other. We are so excited to share the second event of our collaborative Lyricist Project which we have been working on with our amazing partners at Grimm & Co.
As part of Signals 2025, Grimm & Co developed 3 songs with 7-11 year olds from Rotherham over 6 weeks of workshops. They then passed them over to us and we got 3 bands, artists and duo's to create a song from each set of lyrics.
At the Signals on 22nd Feb The Kostanzas and Ellie Human presented their amazing interpretations of two of these songs. We are now ready to resent the third and final piece, skillfully adapted for Harp and voice by two brilliant young musician's from the borough, Ajejandro Barnett (Harp) and Bridie Sutton (Voice).
We are proud to present this at Grimm & Co's incredible Festival Of Stories on 28th May. See link in Bio to reserve a place for FREE!
